Side chair with serpentine crest; carved shells in center of rail and on ears; pierced scrolled splat with carved foliage; fluted stiles; reupholstered seat with floral motif; carved shell on seat rail; front cabriole legs with carved knees and claw-and-ball feet.

Apprenticed as a cabinetmaker in Edinburgh and London, Thomas Affleck emigrated to Philadelphia in 1763. His clients included wealthy Philadelphians, some of them fellow Quakers.
